The Impact of DAD on Handoff Performance of Mobile IPv6 and Test of MLD-Based DAD Scheme

چکیده
In Mobile IPv6 especially in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), Mobile Node’s handoff performance is greatly impaired by the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) procedure for the newly formed Care-of Address. Based on the data gathered from our HMIPv6 test bed, this paper analyzed the origin of such performance degradation. To alleviate the impact of DAD on handoff performance, Greg Daley et al proposed an Internet draft with extended MLD to help finish DAD earlier. My test was based on such a MLD-based DAD idea and our work detailed the draft and verified that it can contribute to much better handoff performance.

An Efficient DAD Scheme for Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 Handoff
Since the interruption between receiving new AR’s RA and receiving BA from HA is depending upon DAD (Duplicate Address Detection), Mobile Node’s handoff performance is very much impaired by the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) procedure for the newly formed Care-of Address in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6). In this paper, we recommend a novel cross-protocol design approach for the DAD probl...
متن کاملPerformance Measurement of Real-Time Mobile Communication in an IPv6 Testbed
This paper presents some experimental results on the performance of real-time mobile communication in an IPv6 testbed. For real-time multimedia communication, we adopt Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as signaling protocol and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) to support seamless connectivity. While performance measurement of real-time mobile communication consists of several factors, we focus here on the h...
متن کاملEnhanced Handoff Latency Reduction Mechanism in Layer 2 and Layer 3 of Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) Network
Next Generation Networks (NGN) both static and mobile are expected to be fully Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) based. Mobility in IPv6 (MIPv6) network was designed to provide Internet services to end users at anytime and anywhere. However, MIPv6 is not widely deployed yet due to handoff latency and other limitations leading to packet loss and Quality of Service (QoS) degradation for real tim...
متن کاملA cross-layer partner-based fast handoff mechanism for IEEE 802.11 wireless networks
In wireless/mobile networks, users freely and frequently change their access points while they are communicating with other users. To support the mobility of mobile nodes, Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) is used to inform the information of mobile node’s home address and current care-of-address (CoA) to its home agent. MIPv6 suffers from a long delay latency and high packet losses because MIPv6 does not su...
متن کاملHandoff delay analysis and measurement for SIP based mobility in IPv6
This paper describes the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based mobility in IPv6 and its performance in our laboratory testbed. For real-time mobile multimedia communication, we use SIP for signaling protocol as well as for supporting terminal mobility. While performance study for real-time mobile communication refers to several factors and their measurements, we analyze here only the handoff ...
